New State Requirement

New State Requirement 

Florida now requires teens to take a driver education course to get their learner’s license. 

SCVS Driver’s Education is State-Approved and Ready. The SCVS Driver Education course is approved by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and meets the new requirement.  

• Earn High School Credit 
• Earn a high school elective 0.5 credit while learning to drive.
• Completion of the SCVS Driver Education course will result in both a DETS certificate and a TLSAE certificate
• Tuition-Free* 
  • SCVS Driver Education is available tuition-free* for most Florida residents.
  • *Unique requirements apply to Florida students who receive scholarship funding. Learn more about scholarship funding. 
• Behind-the-Wheel Driving Experience for current active SCPS students  

Upon completion of the SCVS Driver’s Education Course, current SCPS students will be awarded free Behind the Wheel Training. Information about the driving lessons will be provided upon course completion.
