Each virtual class has a schedule for the completion of assignments. Students are expected to complete and submit assignments according to the designated pace chart. SCVS teachers monitor student progress in virtual classes. Student attendance is measured by the submission of assignments.
A student is considered 'in attendance' if they submit assignments according to the pace chart.
A student is considered 'not in attendance' if they do not submit assignments according to the pace chart.
If a student falls two or more weeks behind pace, teachers notify SCVS admin/staff according to a reporting schedule. Students who are two or more weeks behind pace in two or more classes are considered 'truant'.
Truant in One Course:
Step 1: Truancy warning- Teacher will notify family when a student is off pace.
Step 2: Two weeks behind pace- Teacher will notify school staff. School staff will send a notification email to the student and parent.
Step 3: Persistent Truancy- Teacher will place student on Success Contract. If the student violates the terms of the contract, the student will be issued an 'F' and will be withdrawn from the course.
Truant in Two or More Courses:
1. The teacher will notify school staff and a notification email is sent to the student and parent.
2. The Academic Interventionist (AI) will send the list of students to the Principal, Assistant Principal, and Guidance Counselor.
1st Occurrence- The Guidance Counselor will send an email to the student and parent.
2nd Occurrence- A truancy meeting will be held with the school staff, the parent and the student. During the meeting, the school admin. will determine the appropriate interventions. Interventions may include required face-to-face meetings at the school location.
3rd Occurrence- The students will be placed on a Student Success Contract in all courses. A truancy meeting will be held with the school staff, the parent and the student. Student may be required to return to zoned school as determine by the Principal. Student is ineligible to return to SCVS for the 2nd semester or next year depending on the date.
4th Occurrence- A truancy meeting will be held with the school staff, the parent and the student. Student may be required to return to zoned school by the Principal.
